An original and rare 18th-century painting of a view of Venice by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is a small pier with an anchored sailing vessel. Above the pier there is a hill with scenes of everyday life. Further to the right, a defining feature of the painting, there is a group of Venetian houses, illuminated by the bright light of the morning sun. On the canal, small boats are sailing. In the background there is another island, and further away the mountains are depicted. The sky is clear, tinged with pale blue and white with a few clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated and is exhibited at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.
