The work
Scipio sent some messengers to the Carthaginian general, informing them that he was ready to meet him and discuss the progress of the war with him. Hearing all this, Hannibal moved his camps a few hundred meters from those of Scipio and camped on a hill that seemed to be in a favorable position, although the water supply depended on a distant stream, which caused considerable fatigue for his soldiers. The next day, both commanders advanced from their camps , assisted by some knights on guard, and met. The two Generals moved away from their respective escorts, and, accompanied only by an interpreter, approached each other. After the usual greeting, Hannibal was the first to speak. Hannibal said that in his wishes the Romans should never have wanted any possessions outside of Italy, nor should the Carthaginians have conquered territories outside of Libya. These were two noble empires , destined by nature to command. However, their respective claims to Sicily had made them enemies, and the same thing had happened in Spain.
