The work
The fresco "Perseus Frees Andromeda" is a Roman artwork from the 1st century AD, found in the House of the Dioscuri in Pompeii and currently preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. The scene depicts the hero Perseus in the act of freeing Andromeda, chained to a rock as a sacrificial offering to a sea monster. Perseus, with the head of Medusa in his hand, is shown freeing Andromeda's chains, symbolizing the victory of courage over adversity. This fresco is a significant example of the diffusion of Greek myths in Roman art and illustrates the skill of Pompeian artists in depicting mythological scenes with vividness and detail.
