"Peonies and Canary" by Katsushika Hokusai is one of the most refined compositions in Japanese art, capable of combining natural delicacy and stylistic precision. This print, made on authentic Amalfi paper, captures the harmony between the flower, a symbol of prosperity, and the small bird, creating a scene of great visual balance and serenity.

It belongs to an untitled series known as "Small Flowers," in which Hokusai focuses on naturalistic details, isolated from any narrative context. The work falls within the kachō-ga genre, dedicated to flowers and birds, and presents the poetic contrast between the opulent corollas of the peonies and the tiny but vibrant presence of the canary. Peonies, symbols of prosperity and good fortune, interact with the small bird in a balance of solids and voids typical of ukiyo-e aesthetics, emphasizing the fleetingness and beauty of the "floating world."

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on precious Amalfi paper.

It is a paper composed exclusively of cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic frayed edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.

It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
