"Crashing Waves" by Katsushika Hokusai is one of the most evocative images in Japanese art, capable of conveying movement, power, and harmony in a single glance. This reproduction, made on exquisite Amalfi paper, enhances every detail of the original work, restoring the expressive force of the waves and the aesthetic sensibility of Master Hokusai.

The work, conceived as a vertical kakemono, shows a monumental wave crashing against a pine-covered cliff, while in the distance a tranquil village appears, almost suspended out of time. The contrast between the primordial energy of the sea and the quiet of the coast synthesizes Hokusai's meditation on the relationship between nature and human presence, developed after the famous "Great Wave." The use of ink, very expensive azurite pigments, and seashell white on silk enhances the luminosity of the water and the refinement of the "claw-like" crests, an extreme stylistic hallmark of his late maturity.

Feel history at your fingertips

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on exquisite Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic deckled edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.

It is still made today using ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.
