Katsushika Hokusai's The Feminine Wave is one of the most iconic images in Japanese art, combining strength and harmony in a timeless composition. This art print, made on precious Amalfi paper, enhances every detail of the original work, restoring the power of the sea and the delicate touch typical of Hokusai.

The work belongs to Hokusai's later pictorial production and reflects his long research into the theme of water and movement, developed in parallel with the famous waves of the "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" series. Here, the wave takes on an almost anthropomorphic character and, in its title, alludes to a fluid and "feminine" energy, connected to fertility, change, and the cyclical dimension of nature, themes dear to late-Edo sensibility. The panel format and decorative purpose also show the dialogue between painting and applied arts within ukiyo-e and 19th-century Japanese visual culture.

Feel the history beneath your fingertips

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on precious Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic frayed edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.

It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.
