The Hereford Mappa Mundi, attributed to Richard of Haldingham and dated around 1290-1300, is one of the largest and most celebrated medieval maps to have survived. It was not created as a "modern" geographical tool, but as a symbolic vision of the Christian world: Jerusalem is at its center, the East occupies the upper part, and the map combines sacred history, geography, fantastic creatures, and biblical references. Preserved in Hereford Cathedral, it bears witness to how the Middle Ages interpreted space as a divine order and a narrative of human history.

Feel history at your fingertips

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.

It is a paper composed exclusively of cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic frayed edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.

It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.
