The symbol

Tacitus calls the legion "Galbiana", to distinguish it from the greater Legio VII Claudia, but this name is not found on any inscription. It appears to have received the nickname "Gemina" due to its merger by Vespasian with one of the Germanic legions, the Legio I Germanica.

Between 86 and 89 AD the Legion was commanded by the future emperor Trajan. The symbol is not known but the bull is commonly believed to be plausible.
