The symbol
It was created by Ottaviano and the consul Gaius Vibio Pansa Cetroniano. He fought in the Battle of Philippi and the Battle of Perugia. In 25 BC it was relocated to Spain to fight in the Cantabrian war, which led to Rome's definitive domination of the peninsula. The legion was then headquartered in Tarraconense Spain.
With the destruction of the 17th, 18th and 19th legion in 9 AD at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, the 2nd legion was moved to Germany, perhaps to the Mainz region, and after 17 AD to Argentoratae (now Strasbourg).
