Created in Venice in 1553, this map of the Holy Land belongs to a nautical atlas of 33 maps attributed to the Genoese cartographer Battista Agnese, active in the main humanistic and mercantile circles of the Serenissima. The representation combines the portolan tradition – evident in the dense network of rhumb lines and the compass rose – with a devotional reading of the biblical sites of Palestine and Syria. Rivers, mountain ranges, and fortified cities are meticulously drawn and named in Latin, while Jerusalem occupies a central and iconographically emphasized position. The orientation and wind figures highlight the cosmographic and spiritual dimension of the region, intended for a cultured, perhaps princely, patron interested in both navigation and the sacred geography of the Levant.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.
It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, but soft to the touch, with characteristic fringed edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.
It is still produced today according to ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
