Be captivated by the power of Katsushika Hokusai’s "Amida Falls in the Depths of the Kisokaidō Road," faithfully reproduced here on exquisite Amalfi paper. This art print enhances every detail of the original, from the jagged rocks to the vertical flow of the waterfall, creating an intense and contemplative focal point in any environment.
"Amida Falls in the Depths of the Kisokaidō Road" is a polychrome woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai, created around 1832–1833 during the late Edo period. It is part of the series "A Tour of the Waterfalls of the Provinces," dedicated to Japan’s most famous aquatic landscapes. The work depicts Amida Falls in the remote regions of the Kisokaidō Road, in an area that corresponds to modern-day Gifu Prefecture, a place of ancient mountain cults. The circular void from which the water flows symbolically recalls the head of Amida Buddha, imbuing the scene with devotional meaning. The tiny figures of travelers in contemplation emphasize the power of nature and the spirituality of the landscape, typical aesthetic sensibilities of ukiyo-e.
