The artwork
A fine and refined view of 18th-century sailing ships sailing in the Strait of Messina, painted by Jakob Philipp Hackert. In the foreground there's a galleon, painted in detail, flanked by two sailing ships, while closer up there is a longboat with rowers carrying two renowed passengers. There is a light breeze, the sails are unfurled, and the ships are sailing. The sea, with shades of blue-green, is calm, and near the shore, the color blends with that of the plains and mountains. The dominant color of the painting is blue and white.
The painting is exhibited at the National Museum of San Martino & Certos in Naples.
