The artwork
Original and rare 18th-century painting of a view of San Giuseppe di Castello, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground, work is depicted on the canal, dried up and without water, along with planks and boards for the foundations to be redone. On the left side, painted crosswise, there are the Venetian palaces, while a few people are working on the canal. Further into the background, and centrally positioned, Canaletto depicts the church of San Giuseppe in a classical-Renaissance style. In the foreground, on the right, there is a second church.
The sky is clear, tinged with light blue and white, with a few clouds. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1740.
