An original and very fine photograph depicting Daniel in the Lions' Den, painted by Rubens.
The painting shows Daniel shut in the lions' den, praying with his eyes raised upwards.
The Old Testament tells how the Persian king Darius I "the Great" (550-486 BC) condemned the devout and faithful Daniel to spend the night in a den of lions for having worshipped God instead of him.
