The artwork
Historical view of Rome, highlighting the Tiber River, crossed by many boats, some moored on the bank. The dominant color of the painting is blue, representing a partly cloudy sky and the waters of the Tiber. St. Peter's and Castel Sant'Angelo are distant on the horizon, but clearly visible. The detail of the plants along the shore, reflected in the Tiber's waters, is remarkable. On the left side, the trading activities of Roman travelers are evident. The changing hues of the sky, with shades of blue and the surrounding white clouds are to be noted.
This painting is part of the extensive production that Vanvitelli created during his stays in Rome.
The painting is part of the collection of Palazzo Pitti, in Florence.
