The artwork
A rare 18th-century depiction of the city of Padua with a view outside the walls, created by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto, with black chalk, pen, and brown ink and gray watercolor on paper. On the left side, the Church of San Francesco can be glimpsed, while on the opposite side, the Palazzo della Ragione can be glimpsed. In the foreground, Canaletto depicts a green meadow outside the walls, with several scenes of daily life. The sky is cloudy, with a few clouds on the horizon.
