An original and luminous 18th-century view of the Santa Chiara canal in Venice, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the canal, crossed by boats of various kinds, including some gondolas. Alongside the canal is the Riva Santa Chiara, lined in a semicircle with houses and a few Venetian palazzi. The sky is clear with a few white clouds on the horizon. The picture, an oil on canvas, is undated. Canaletto painted numerous variants of this picture.
The painting is on display at the Musée Cognacq-Jay, Paris, France.
