An original and distinctive 18th-century view, with shades of pink, of the Piazzetta and the Bacino di San Marco, by Giovanni Antonio Canal. In the foreground is the basin, with its boats, and the detail of a galleon on the left. Further back is St Mark's Square, with a view of the Doge's Palace and the campanile. A characteristic feature of the painting is the colour of the sky, which takes on shades of pink in the twilight. The picture, an oil on canvas, is dated 1736.
