View of the Lateran, Rome - Lievin Cruyl

The artwork

An original historic view of the Lateran district in Rome in the 18th century, by Lievin Cruyl. The basilica is seen from the front and from a distance, while the working-class houses facing the square with the obelisk stand out. Beside the Lateran church is a large rectangular palace. There are townspeople in the square; the details are softly blurred. The working-class housing is shown outside the walls.
