An original and luminous 18th-century view of the Canale di Santa Chiara in Venice, by Giovanni Antonio Canal. The Riva di Santa Chiara extends on the right of the painting, its palazzi reflected in the canal. On the bank are scenes of everyday life, while the canal is plied by boats of various kinds. The water has light green and light blue reflections. The sky is clear with a few scattered white clouds. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1730. Canal painted numerous variants of this work.
