But the central theme of the painting is the Augustus Bridge with its beautiful and powerful Roman arches, permanently connecting the two banks of the Elbe. The sky is painted by Bellotto with light shades and a few clouds. The painting is undated. It is one of 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during a stay.
