The artwork
A clear and vivid eighteenth-century engraving of Dresden with the Augustus Bridge, created by Bernardo Bellotto. The great Elbe River stands out, dividing the city, connected by the historic Roman Augustus Bridge, reflected in the river. On the right, you can admire the church, while in the foreground, on the opposite bank, are boats. But the central theme of the painting is the Augustus Bridge with its beautiful and powerful Roman arches, permanently connecting the two banks of the Elbe. The sky is painted by Bellotto with light shades and a few clouds. The painting is undated. It is one of 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during a stay.
