An original and rare 18th-century side view of the church of Santa Maria della Salute, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the church’s large forecourt, with scenes of everyday life, and the landing stage for boats. Canal painted the water in shades of light green and blue. The splendid church of Santa Maria della Salute is painted by Canaletto in the morning sun. The sky is slightly cloudy, shaded in light blue, with white for the clouds. The picture, an oil on canvas, is undated.
