An original 18th-century view of the Molo in Venice with a detail of boats at their moorings, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The view is from the Grand Canal, with the boats neatly moored and sailors carrying out harbour work, while other boats are manoeuvring. Further back one can admire the Doge’s Palace and the Campanile of San Marco. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds on the horizon. The picture, an oil on canvas, is undated. Canaletto created numerous variants of this painting.
