The artwork
A rare and transcendent historical view of Rome, highlighted by the Castel Sant'Angelo, painted by Bernardo Bellotto. Rome is depicted in the distance, with the Tiber River seemingly flowing toward the viewer. The river is spanned by a bridge with its three Romanesque arches. Other smaller, more imperceptible vessels are visible near the bridge.
Castel Sant'Angelo can be seen on the right side of the painting, while the dome of St. Peter's is more subtle in the background. The sky is clear with a few white clouds.
Another version of this work exists, part of a private collection.
