"The Separation of the Earth from the Waters" is a fresco of around 1511-1512 forming part of the Sistine Chapel ceiling in the Vatican Museums. The scene shows God separating the earth from the primordial waters with a powerful gesture, a work marked by the monumentality of the divine figure and a dynamic composition, with God at the centre, surrounded by a court of angels and watched by four ignudi.
