An original and rare 18th-century view of St James’s Park, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the green lawn, where the guards in their splendid red uniforms are drilling. Alongside the park, on the left, is a broad avenue with scenes of everyday life, while in the background, set crosswise to the park, are some buildings. The sky is clear and bright, without a single cloud. The work, an oil on canvas, is undated.
