The artwork
An original and luminous 18th-century depiction of the Molo in Venice, facing the Piazzetta San Marco, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. A distinctive feature of the painting is the Molo with its quayside, the moored boats and those under way, among them some gondolas. Further back one can admire the Doge’s Palace, the bell tower of St Mark’s and the Bridge of Sighs. The sky has a few white clouds but remains clear overall. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1747.
The artwork is on display at the San Diego Museum of Art, USA.
