An original and rare 18th-century view of the Grand Canal seen from Campo San Vio, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the Grand Canal, plied by vessels of various sizes. Canal painted the water in shades of light green and blue. Venetian palazzi line the Grand Canal. The sky is slightly cloudy, shaded in light blue, with white for the clouds. The picture, an oil on canvas, is undated. Canaletto created other variants of this work.
