An original and distinctive engraving of the Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine by Lievin Cruyl, seen in perspective from the terrace of a villa. At the foot of the villa is a well-kept walled garden; further back are the Colosseum with the square in front of it and the Arch of Constantine. In the foreground on the left is the villa’s fine portico, looking directly across at the Colosseum. The Arch of Constantine is placed further to the right, in oblique perspective. In the background are the other Roman palaces. On the right-hand side is the detail of a ruined palace, with climbing plants over its walls.
