The work

Edition of the topography of ancient Rome and ancient architecture described and demonstrated with plans and views of monuments, edited by Luigi Canina, Italian architect and archaeologist, who wanted to be continuously updated with works that were both the latest archaeological discoveries of the nineteenth century and theories on the restoration and depiction of ancient monuments.

The views are decorated with ornaments and figures. Luigi Canina, architect and archaeologist, born in Casale Monferrato on 23 October 1795, died in Florence on 17 October 1856. He studied in Turin with Ferdinando Bonsignore.
