A splendid depiction of the streets of ancient Rome by Francois Halma, published in Amsterdam towards the end of the 17th century, the map offers a detailed and fascinating view of the city. The streets are wide and adorned with statues and magnificent tall buildings, while mosaics and palaces abound. Temples are placed at regular intervals, creating a harmonious and well-planned image of Roman urbanism.
This view was later republished by Pieter van der Aa in his Galerie Agreeable du Monde. The later state of the map can be identified by the addition of pagination just inside the platemark on the lower right. This republication reflects the continuous appreciation for classical civilization and the art of cartography.
