An interesting and original painting by Jakob Philipp Hackert depicting a Roman landscape. Prominent is a natural pond with livestock drinking. On the left is a large tree with a shepherd resting at its foot, while on the right is a dark clearing. In the centre of the picture is a farming landscape with luxuriant vegetation, softly rendered in its details, while in the background are mountains.
The painting is on display at the Stiftsmuseum, Klosterneuburg, Austria.
