The work
Ancient engraving presenting views of the Roman Forum and the churches of Santi Luca e Martina and Santa Maria Nova (today Santa Francesca Romana).
The view of the Forum, based on a drawing by Lievin Cruyl, looks south-east from the Capitoline Hill towards the Colosseum. In front of the Temple of Castor and Pollux, cattle are seen in the Campo Vaccino, an area of the Forum used as a cow pasture for several centuries. Behind the Curia, you can see a row of houses.
The views of the two churches are taken from engravings by Giovanni Battista Falda, offering a detailed and historically rich representation of one of Rome's most significant places.
