Piazza Navona from Prospectus Locurum Urbis Romae Insignium - Lievin Cruyl

The artwork

A distinctive, unique and historical view of Piazza Navona flooded, in the 18th century, seen in perspective; an engraving by Lievin Cruyl with the obelisk and church prominent on the right side of the work. The square is flooded and the sky is still leaden; around the edges of the great pool that has formed are carriages and passers-by. Palaces line the perimeter of the square. A similar variant of this work exists.
