A luminous and interesting view of the Neumarkt (New Market Square) in Dresden, by Bernardo Bellotto. The very large square stands out, filled with townspeople and a few stalls where bargaining is under way. On the right, many fine palazzi and the church overlook the square. The sky is clear and serene, and the day is ideal for the market.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1750. It is one of the 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during one of his stays.
