DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE PEUTINGER TABLE IS?

This section of the Tabula Peutingeriana, Pars V (Segments IV-V): Aquileia, Regina, Lauriacum, represents: northeastern Italy (Veneto, Friuli) with the strategic hub of Aquileia; the eastern Adriatic coast, corresponding to today's Slovenia and Croatia (Istria, Dalmatia); the imperial provinces of Noricum, Pannonia, and the Danubian regions; the inland parts of the Balkan Peninsula to the south; and the Adriatic Sea, represented as a blue stripe with stylized islands.

The most important urban center on this map is undoubtedly Aquileia (Aquilea). It was a major port city and a major traffic hub for the Empire, as well as a military stronghold defending the northeastern borders. The routes leading to the interior of the Empire start from here (Noricum, Pannonia), as well as the routes along the Adriatic coast to the east (Tergeste (Trieste), Istria, and Dalmatia), and the routes to the Po Valley (e.g., Verona and Mediolanum) began.
Moving northeast, there are the roads leading to the Danube, Regina (probably near today's region between Bavaria and Austria), and Lauriacum (now Enns, in Austria), an important military camp.
In the region of Istria and Dalmatia, there is Pola (Pula), clearly visible with a monumental building.
The natural elements depicted are the Adriatic Sea with stylized islands and major rivers, such as the Danube, depicted with winding lines.

Pars V shows a pivotal area of the Roman Empire, where the routes of Italy, Central Europe, and the Balkans met, all converging on Aquileia as a strategic hub.
