The Tabula Peutingeriana is the only large road map of the Roman Empire that has come down to us (in a medieval copy), a long strip of parchment showing cities, ports, and communication routes from the Atlantic to the Near East like an ancient Roman "highway planisphere". It was a practical tool linked to itineraria and the cursus publicus, the imperial postal and transport service, and for this reason, it is today an essential source for reconstructing the logistics, administration, and traffic of the Roman world.
The preserved specimen is a 12th-13th century copy, which reproduces a map from the Imperial Age probably connected to the great world map commissioned by Agrippa under Augustus. The name "Peutingeriana" derives from the humanist Konrad Peutinger, who owned it in the 16th century and gave it fame among European scholars; today the table is preserved in Vienna and is recognized as a document of exceptional historical value.
This reproduction makes accessible a masterpiece of ancient cartography and an icon for those who love Rome, its roads, and its historical geography. It is ideal for studies, libraries, and workplaces, available both as a complete collection and by purchasing individual segments of the map, allowing you to compose your ideal route through the Roman Empire.
