Historical world map also known as 'Le Theatre du Monde' created by Willem Janszoon Blaeu in 1645. From the Latin Nova Orbis Geographica ac Totius Terrarum Hydrographica. It is a colored engraving.
The map is rectangular in plan, and indicates all continents as they were known at the time. The map contains inscriptions by the cartographer Willem.
All around the map there are allegorical figures taken from the classical world and mythology.
Willem Janszoon Blaeu, Latinized Guilielmus Jansonius Blavius (1571 – Amsterdam, 1638), was a Dutch cartographer and publisher.
Son of a merchant, he was the author, printer and publisher of maps and globes, which he signed until 1621 with the name Guljelmus Caesius.
