This panoramic view of Milan, likely dating from 1725, is the work of the German publisher, cartographer, and engraver from Augsburg, Gabriel Bodenehr the Elder (1673-1766).

This exquisite copper engraving was published in his famous series "Europeans Macht und Pracht," a topographical and geographical work offering a visual panorama of fortresses, castles, monasteries, passes, residences, palaces, and waterfalls, as well as Europe's most renowned and significant cities. Although there are several editions or parts published in slightly different years, the date most commonly associated with the complete work or a large portion of it is around 1720.

The title itself, "Macht und Pracht" (Power and Glory/Splendor), reflects the Baroque mentality of the era, which exalted the grandeur, wealth, and magnificence of European kingdoms and cities. The series is a valuable source for the study of urbanism, architecture, and geography in 18th-century Europe. The views, although occasionally containing minor inaccuracies, offer a detailed overview of how these locations appeared at the time.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on precious Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic deckled edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.

It is still made today using ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
