Historical map of the Copernican System created by Andreas Cellarius according to the indications of Nicolaus Copernicus. It is a hand-colored engraving.
The map represents the planetary system with the Sun at the center, and the other planets orbiting around it. Outside the orbits are the zodiac signs.
In the corners of the map are allegories taken from mythology and the classical world.
Andreas Cellarius (Neuhausen, c. 1596 – Hoorn, 1665) was a German-Dutch cartographer, best known for the work Harmonia Macrocosmica of 1660, a star atlas published by Jan Janssonius in Amsterdam.
Nicolaus Copernicus (in Latin Nicolaus Copernicus) was a Polish astronomer, mathematician, and priest.
