This rare map of the city of Lucca, engraved by Pierre Mortier, was published in his famous volume dedicated to Italian cities. The map is oriented with west at the top, a typical cartographic detail of the era, and offers a precise and rich representation of the Tuscan city. It shows the fortified walls, access gates, main streets, squares, buildings, and other urban elements, making it one of the few historical views of Lucca still available on the market.

Pierre Mortier, a Dutch engraver and publisher of French origin, was one of the leading figures in European cartography at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. After obtaining the privilege to print French maps in the Netherlands, he published important atlases and views, including the Neptune François. This map of Lucca represents a refined example of Baroque cartographic art. Ideal for collectors and enthusiasts of Italian urban history.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on precious Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic deckled edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.

It is still made today following ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
