Original and luminous eighteenth-century view of the River Thames in London, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The scene is depicted from a terrace on the left bank of the river (at the bottom of the painting), with the great river navigated by various types of vessels. On the right bank, London unfolds, with its Anglo-Saxon-style buildings and churches. The sky features a few clouds on the horizon, painted by Canaletto with shades of pink, but the day remains clear.
The work, an oil on canvas, is dated 1747.
