A rare and original view of the lock in the town of Dolo, made by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto, as an etching on paper. Prominent are the humble houses above the lock; in the foreground is the high retaining wall with the river below. On the viewer's side are scenes of everyday life. The sky is clear but there are a few clouds on the horizon.
The work is dated 1740. Other variants of this work by Canaletto exist.
