A rare and original view of the Dolo lock by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto, created with etching on paper. The popular houses above the lock are prominent, with the high retaining wall in the foreground and the river below. From the viewer's perspective, there are scenes of everyday life. The sky is clear, but there are a few clouds on the horizon.
The work is dated 1740. Other variations of this work by Canaletto exist.
