The work
Fine hand-colored example of Hartmann Schedel's incunabula view of Rome from Schedel's Liber Chronicum, perhaps the most influential secular illustrated book of the 15th century and one of the landmark printed works of the 15th century.
Schedel's view of Rome is one of the earliest available views of the Eternal City and, realistically, the only large-format 15th-century illustration of Rome accessible to collectors. Although the illustration is less than accurate, Castel de San Angelo, the Vatican, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Belvedere and the Mausoleum of Hadrian are clearly depicted among other features.
