A luminous and original painting by Bernardo Bellotto depicting Königstein Fortress on its rock. Prominent are the fortress and the winding road leading up to it. In the foreground Bellotto depicts shepherds pausing on their journey. The sky is cloudy and leaden, but a ray of light illuminates the shepherds. One of the dominant colours of the painting is green, which Bellotto has shaded with great mastery. Other variants of this painting exist with different lighting.
