A luminous and original painting of Königstein Fortress on its rock, by Bernardo Bellotto. The fortress and the winding road leading up to it stand out. Closer to the foreground, Bellotto depicts shepherds taking a rest on their journey. The sky is cloudy and leaden, but a ray of light illuminates the shepherds.
One of the dominant colours of the painting is green, which Bellotto has shaded with great mastery. Other versions of this painting exist with different lighting.
