An original and refined painting of King Ferdinand I's coot hunt, made by Jakob Philipp Hackert. The moment the arquebus is fired is striking. The hunter is at the water's edge; further back are some boats, while closer by a hunting dog is swimming to retrieve the downed coot. In the foreground is the servant holding the first prize, a coot, while two other dogs are plunging into the lake to fetch the downed bird.
The painting is on display at the Capodimonte Museum, Naples.
