Europa on the Bull is a fresco discovered in the House of Jason in Pompeii and housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
The fresco, created between 20 and 25 AD and originally located in the House of Jason, depicts the abduction of Europa by Zeus transformed into a bull, following a pyramidal compositional scheme typical of Hellenism. In the background, dominated by a column symbolizing the god and a white rocky landscape, Europa is depicted semi-nude, seated on the bull and accompanied by three maids. Two copies of the work exist: one in the house of Lucius Vetutius Placidus and another, now lost, documented by a watercolor by Giuseppe Abbate.
