Preserved inside the large Sicilian residence from the 4th century AD, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, the mosaic represents eight young women engaged in what appears to be a sporting competition. A truly fascinating testimony, which also allows us to make hypotheses about what must have been the most popular sporting practices at the time: we see two girls intent on playing ball, one probably engaged in discus throwing, a sport usually reserved for men, while another seems intent on lifting the ancestors of modern weights.
