Claude Monet's painting of the Doge's Palace in Venice is a work created in 1908. In that year, the artist visited the lagoon city for a period, remaining fascinated by its light and its unique atmospheres.
During his stay, Monet devoted himself to several views, including some of the Doge's Palace, a symbol of Venetian power and history.
The Venetian works, while maintaining their distinctive style, are distinguished by the fluid and almost ethereal representation of the architecture emerging from the water, underlining the play of reflections and the vibrant luminosity of the lagoon.
Many of these canvases were then completed in France, in his studio, after his return from Venice. The series was successfully exhibited in Paris in 1912.
